Writing postcards for the world

What do postcards and subtitles have in common?

With only one image and a limited amount of space, we must convey a message, keeping its essence and making it travel across cultures.

When I saw these vintage postcards, I thought about how sending messages on these small pieces of paper is like my job as a translator and subtitler.

Subtitling and translating are like writing postcards for the world.

This season is a good time to celebrate how language can connect us all, whether through a handwritten postcard, a movie, or a conversation.

Here’s to a new year filled with meaningful connections, shared languages, and global understanding.

P.S. This is Café Saudade, in Sintra, Portugal.
